Casa Canal

Casa Canal transforms a former 24,000-square-foot office building in San Rafael into 41 units of permanent supportive housing. Developed by Eden Housing in partnership with Marin County and funded through California’s Homekey and Housing Accelerator programs, the community provides 32 studios, eight one-bedroom apartments, and one two-bedroom manager’s unit.

Work included:

• Full adaptive reuse of an existing office building into residential units
• Community amenities: Community room, case management and property management offices, onsite laundry, and shared outdoor gathering areas
• Building systems upgrades: New plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and fire/life-safety systems designed for residential use
• Accessibility improvements: New accessible paths of travel, parking, and circulation routes
• Site enhancements: Grading, drainage, landscaping, and conversion of parking/roof deck space into usable outdoor courtyards and gardens
• Sustainability upgrades: Energy-efficient systems and durable finishes to support long-term affordability and lower operational costs
