Safety
Safety: Is Anyone Listening?
Every year, OSHA releases its list of the Top 10 most frequently cited safety violations. And every year, it looks almost the same. Fall protection, scaffolding, ladders, hazard communication; the same issues keep showing up year after year.
That repetition tells us something important: safety isn’t a box we check once, not even weekly or monthly. It’s not a box. It’s a habit we have to choose, over and over again.
We talk about safety constantly because complacency is what creeps in when things feel routine. When we’ve done something a hundred times without incident, it’s easy to think, “I know this, I’m fine.” But that’s exactly when risk hides in plain sight.
At D+H, safety has to be a constant. That means getting comfortable with repeating ourselves, and hearing others repeat the same message back. It means asking the same questions, doing the same checks, and never assuming “common sense” will carry the day. Because the truth is, common sense isn’t common. It’s the product of awareness, training, and accountability.
So when we remind each other about PPE, tie-offs, or housekeeping for the tenth time this week, that’s not nagging; it’s how we protect one another. Safety doesn’t get old. It gets reinforced.
Building an Inclusive Future: D+H Celebrates Construction Inclusion Week
Next week, D+H Construction will join the industry in recognizing Construction Inclusion Week (CIW) — a national initiative that unites builders, tradespeople, and partners around advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in construction. CIW provides an opportunity to pause, learn, and strengthen our culture of respect — ensuring that every voice on our sites and in our offices is heard and valued.
“At D+H Construction, we know that building strong communities starts with creating an inclusive and respectful workplace. That’s why we proudly joined the Construction Inclusion Week pledge — to reaffirm our commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and belonging across every job site and office. Taking this pledge isn’t just symbolic; it’s a promise to listen, learn, and lead in making construction a place where everyone feels valued and thrives.”

What to Expect During CIW
This year’s Construction Inclusion Week (October 13-17) will be centered around its five pillars, designed to guide conversations and actions across the industry:
Commitment & Accountability – Leading with integrity and owning our role in advancing inclusion.
Belonging – Fostering workplaces where everyone feels welcomed, respected, and valued.
Supplier Diversity – Supporting and partnering with diverse businesses to strengthen our industry.
Workforce Development – Expanding opportunities for training, growth, and advancement for all.
Community Engagement – Building meaningful connections with the neighborhoods where we work.
At D+H, we’ll be sharing resources, hosting toolbox talks, and highlighting stories that bring these pillars to life. We’ll also provide information on mental health and well-being, an essential part of creating safe and supportive workplaces.
Why This Matters
Construction is about more than buildings — it’s about people. By participating in Construction Inclusion Week, D+H reinforces its commitment to fairness, respect, and opportunity across every role and job site. Together, we can continue to create an industry where everyone belongs and can succeed.
We invite everyone — employees, partners, and subcontractors — to keep these conversations going beyond this week. Together, we can continue to foster an environment where every individual feels they belong and can succeed.

Milestones: The exterior fueling station for the interior diesel generator has been installed after being added to the scope at the end of the project due to an engineering bust. The next milestones will be to tie the liquid sensors in the fill box to the generator’s emergency alarm system and then install the elevator control system upgrades to be tied into the ATS at the generator. Once those items are complete, we can schedule inspections!
Shoutouts: to every single D+H employee who has stepped in at one point or another to help get us to the finish line. Almost there!
Milestones: The South Building exterior is now complete, along with the civil scope and all work under ASI-16. Two of the four elevators have passed state inspection. In the Community Building, the acoustical ceiling tile installation is finished, and the security camera system and lighting scope are now complete.
Shoutouts: to Giovany and Gerardo for their daily proactive problem-solving and true teamwork, tackling challenges together and sharing ideas to find solutions. And shoutout to Jenny for her unwavering support, from troubleshooting roadblocks to offering guidance and encouragement. Your reliability and positive attitude have been key to keeping this project moving forward.
Milestones: Phases 1 & 2, a total of 50 units out of 104, were turned over to the owner in mid-July. Common areas (including the kitchen/dining space, laundry rooms, meeting rooms, and most offices) are scheduled for turnover in October. Phase 3 & 4 window and PTAC installations will be completed next week, with the exterior expected to be water-tight and ready for MEP rough inspection.
Shoutouts: to Scott and Hasti for driving progress through key hurdles in the common areas (community kitchen and laundry rooms) and site work (vehicle gate and north fence).
Milestones: The project has reached several key milestones, with significant progress across all areas of work. New storm drain systems have been installed throughout the 10-acre property, and the main drive aisle has been fully reconstructed. Construction is complete on 11 new ADA-compliant residential units and one new manager’s unit, while repairs have been finished in 172 of the 193 existing residential units. All 20 buildings now have new roofing, and the pool area bathroom and laundry room are complete.
Shoutouts: Completed new storm drain systems and drive aisle across the 10-acre occupied property with strong coordination with civil engineers, city officials, and PG&E, all while minimizing disruption to residents.
Project completion: 77% complete based on contract value.
